Big Island 2023

I’ve been trying to figure out how I want to publish what are basically my vacation photos. Quite literally the modern version of the slideshow. So, I embraced it, threw them all at iMovie’s auto make a movie feature and this is basically the result.

Big Island 2023

Here we go check out my vacation photos from the Big Island of Hawaii in this convenient 6-minute-long YouTube video. You’ll see some sand, some street art, water, whole bunch of trees, and way to many photos of our squinting faces because memory is fleeting and I didn’t always remember to wear my sunglasses.

Sunday Morning at Brimmer & Heeltap

We recently stopped by Brimmer & Heeltap, a trendy little spot in Ballard, for a quick breakfast. As seems to be the case with many restaurants these days, the place had two words and an “&” in its name. Nevertheless, we found the food to be really good, and I especially enjoyed the super dope bread that was served with both of our dishes.

When we arrived at the restaurant, we were immediately struck by the warm and welcoming atmosphere. The decor was rustic and charming, with an open garage door wall, fire pit, and cozy seating arrangements. The staff were friendly and attentive, and we quickly seated ourselves at a cozy little outdoor table after ordering.

For my breakfast, I opted for the smoked salmon toast. The toast was made with a thick slice of crusty sourdough bread and topped with generous portions of smoked salmon. The dish was really tasty, although it was a bit heavy with the fennel on top. Fortunately, the olive oil drizzle was a nice touch that added a lovely, subtle richness to the dish.

My fiancé, Gergina, ordered the egg and bacon sandwich. It was served on a beautifully toasted, fresh-baked brioche bun, and the egg was perfectly cooked with a runny yolk that oozed out onto the plate when she cut into it. The bacon was crispy and flavorful, and the combination of the two was truly delicious.

Overall, we left Brimmer & Heeltap feeling satisfied and content, with the taste of freshly baked bread still lingering on our tongues. The restaurant has certainly earned its reputation as a great spot for breakfast in Ballard, and I’m already looking forward to my next visit.

Timelapse from the Westin Seattle Presidential Suite

I had an opportunity to spend some time in the presidential suite at the Westin Seattle a couple weeks back. They’ve got a great view of the cityscape and I managed to get some pretty great timelapse videos of the skyline. Check it out!

Staying Safe on the Web

I occasionally get asked by friends and family what to do about security on their phone and computer. I give them the usual advice install uBlock Origin, use a password manager like 1Password, and if I’m feeling talkative go into the benefits of enabling two-factor authentication on as many logins as possible. But there’s only so much advice you can give before you see their eyes start to glaze over, so I made a note in my head to write something about the topic.

Recently my laziness was rewarded, the NY Time’s Wirecutter put out a couple great posts about securing your digital life and what to do and not do on your computer and phone.

First off is their “Favorite Ad Blockers and Browser Extensions,” which hits all the you should install this this and this topics that I was talking about in the first paragraph. Secondly, are privacy tips and security audit recommendations for both the iOS and Android ecosystems. Finally this third article, “How a Burner Identity Protects,” gets into the more advanced topic of using burner numbers, emails, and virtual credit cards to secure yourself from company data breaches and people that shouldn’t have your contact information.

Read them over, take some advice, and don’t install Limewire on your computer!
